Richmond, BC, Canada – March 15, 2023 – LUCID Vision Labs, Inc., a designer and manufacturer of unique and innovative industrial vision cameras, is pleased to announce that the new Helios™2 Wide 3D Time-of-Flight (ToF) camera has entered series production.

Helios2 Wide integrates Sony’s DepthSense™ IMX556PLR back-illuminated ToF image sensor paired with a wide-angle lens and four wide-angle 850nm VCSEL laser diodes, providing a 108° Field of View (FoV). The camera is suited for applications with a close working distance and large area of operation such as full-size palettizing.

The Helios2 Wide offers the same IP67 and Factory Tough™ design as the regular Helios2 but quadruples the viewable area thanks to its wider 108° x 78° Field of View. This allows the Helios2 Wide to image a much larger area at the same distance of a Helios2 camera or image the same area but at a closer distance to the target, allowing for more flexibility with camera installation. Helios2 Wide offers a 640 x 480 depth resolution at up to an 8.3 meter working distance and a frame rate of 30 fps.

“Thanks to its ease of use, reduced footprint and cost-effectiveness, LUCID’s Helios2 ToF cameras have seen an increased popularity for use in a variety of applications such as pick and place, palletization/depalletization, warehouse, robotics and metrology,” says Rod Barman, Founder and President at LUCID Vision Labs. “By adding the Helios2 Wide to our growing 3D Time-of-Flight camera family, we are now offering a wider 108° Field of View suited for applications requiring more flexibility for a larger area of operation or working distance.”

LUCID’s own Arena SDK includes easy to use controls for all Helios2 ToF cameras. The ArenaView GUI can show the intensity and depth of a scene in either a 2D view or a 3D point cloud view, which can be manipulated and oriented in real-time. Additionally, settings can be adjusted and seen in real-time, including false color overlay and depth range.
All LUCID cameras conform to the GigE Vision 2.0 and GenICam3 standards and are supported by LUCID’s own Arena software development kit. The Arena SDK provides customers with easy access to the latest industry standards and software technology. The SDK supports Windows, Linux 64bit and Linux ARM operating systems, and C, C++, C# and Python programming languages.
