Helios2+ Time-of-Flight 3D Cameras
with HDR and High-Speed Modes
The Helios2+ series adds advanced imaging capabilities for applications that require reliable 3D data in dynamic or challenging conditions. Featuring on-camera HDR and high-speed depth acquisition, HDR mode combines multiple exposures into a single depth frame for improved performance in high-contrast scenes, while high-speed mode increases frame rate using single-phase measurement. These capabilities make Helios2+ models ideal for motion-heavy, high-contrast, or scenes with varying surface reflectivity. Both HDR and High Speed modes are realized entirely with on-camera processing.

Helios2 Chroma RGB-D Models
Accurate Color 3D Point Clouds
Helios2 Chroma cameras are a fully assembled, factory-calibrated IP67-rated RGB-D camera that combine a Helios2 ToF 3D camera with a Triton color camera. No user calibration or assembly required. By integrating a Sony DepthSense™ ToF sensor with a high-resolution color sensor, the system delivers a color-overlaid 3D point cloud with sub-millimeter precision. The hardware performs real-time spatial alignment, precisely mapping every RGB pixel to its corresponding depth coordinate to eliminate parallax errors common in manual multi-camera setups. By combining depth and color into a single stream, the Helios2 Chroma is an ideal out-of-the-box solution for 3D applications that rely on color data for enhanced vision processing capabilities.

The Helios2+ High Dynamic Range mode fuses multiple exposures in the phase domain to provide accurate depth information in high contrast, complex scenes, containing both highly reflective and low reflectivity objects.
The Helios2 combines a factory tough design with exceptional 3D precision and accuracy into a compact IP67 machine vision camera. Featuring Sony’s IMX556PLR DepthSense sensor, learn what’s new in the Helios2 and how it compares to the original Helios in this video.
The Helios2+ High Dynamic Range mode fuses multiple exposures in the phase domain to provide accurate depth information in high contrast, complex scenes, containing both highly reflective and low reflectivity objects.
The Helios2+ High-Speed mode enables depth perception using a single phase measurement to realize faster acquisition speed and higher framerates. This allows 3D imaging of moving objects without distortion at the expense of accuracy and distance range.

CAPD
Current Assisted Photonic Demodulator

CAPD produces a very high demodulating contrast. A high contrast ratio means more electrons are directed to the right junction, allowing for higher quality phase shift calculations.
BSI
Backside Illuminated CMOS

Sony’s BSI technology ensures the maximum amount of light reaches the photodiode compared to conventional sensor wiring layers.
VCSELs: High Performance Light

The emitted light used for distance calculations is critically important to the performance of a ToF camera. To ensure reliable performance the Helios camera uses 4 vertical cavity surface emitting lasers (VCSEL) to emit modulated light. VCSELs have faster rise and fall times compared to LEDs, which makes them excellent light emitters for CW phase-shift ToF sensors such as the IMX556. The VCSELs can also produce high modulation frequencies for better accuracy and precision for shorter distances.

Simplified Ethernet Cabling for Factory Integration

Easy 3D Controls
The Arena SDK includes easy to use controls for the Helios2 ToF camera. ArenaView allows for 2D and 3D views: 2D view allows one to see the intensity and depth of the scene from the camera’s perspective. 3D view displays a point cloud of the scene and allows users to manipulate the orientation in real-time. Additionally, settings can be changed in real-time such as false color overlay, depth range adjustments, out of range color settings and more.
